ESCA Gourmet Pizza + Bar

Pizza is not only a combination of the finest ingredients, but also an expression of a culture… a way of life.” – Antimo Caputo

Last weekend for datenight, we went out for dinner at our new favorite place ESCA Gourmet Pizza + Bar. It’s a trendy new restaurant located on Pitt Street in downtown Cornwall. The new restaurant building formerly housed an LCBO store, and I must say that they’ve done something pretty amazing with the location. It features a stunning modern and comfortable interior, and there’s also a good size patio with plenty of free parking space in the back. It’s definitely a great addition to Cornwall’s bar and fine dining scene.

This marked our second visit to the restaurant, and much like the first, it did not disappoint. Our first outing was back in August; and even then, we we’re quite impressed by the premises, the friendly staff, and the amazing food. During our first visit, we shared the Baked Brie appetizer. It was a delicious warm brie, topped with balsamic vinegar, garlic, sundried tomatoes, basil, and served alongside artisan bread. Really flavorful, our only wish is that there were more bread to go along with this tasty appetizer!

The copious amount of gourmet pizzas featured on the menu had us wanting to try them all! We couldn’t pick just one, so we both decided to get a pizza and share. My pick was the CHAMP: genoese pesto crema, parmigiano reggiano, portobello, shiitake and cremini mushrooms, and house garlic truffle oil. I really enjoyed it and it was like nothing I’ve ever had before. I loved the freshness and earthiness of the mushrooms, and the truffle oil definitely took the flavors to the next level. My boyfriend chose the GENOA: fresh tomato sauce, mozzarella, Genoa salami, fennel sausage, and bacon. That one was equally amazing! ESCA pizza crusts are thin, fresh, crisp, and arguably the best crust I’ve ever tasted.

The pizzas really are the star of the show, so for our second visit we decided to get a little crazy and order 3 (YES 3!!) pizzas. We each decided on two pizzas to share, and figured we might as well throw another one into the mix and take the leftovers home. I mean let’s be honest, who doesn’t want leftovers from ESCA… am I right!!

Our picks were the ESCA, the DYNAMO, and the LYSSIE. They were all incredible, well prepared and delicious. We honestly can’t stop raving about the DYNAMO pizza. It’s been a week since our visit, and we are still talking about that pizza! It’s sweet, savory, and the honey drizzle kicks everything up a notch.

Another thing we love about ESCA is the service; it’s excellent and beyond reproach. On both occasions our server was friendly, delightful and attentive. As a customer, it’s definitely refreshing. My boyfriend and I are legit craft beer enthusiasts, and were delighted to see so many amazing picks available on tap. This time around we sampled 2 thirst quenching beers. The first was the 100th Meridian from Mill Street Brewery; the type of beer that you can drink anytime. The second one was Naughty Neighbour from Nickel Brook Brewing; super tasty with a citrus-hop flavor. We look forward to going back and sampling all the other ones they have on tap.
